Endometriosis is a condition in which tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows in other places, such as the ovaries and Fallopian tubes

Symptoms of endometriosis:

Some women are severely affected, while others may not have any noticeable symptoms

Some common symptoms of endometriosis are:

– Pain in the lower abdomen or back (pelvic pain)

– The pain is usually worse during menstruation

– Pain during or after sex

– Pain when urinating or defecating during menstruation

– Feeling nauseous, constipated, or diarrhea

– The presence of blood in the urine or stool during the menstrual cycle

– Difficulty getting pregnant

– You may have heavy periods during your menstrual cycle and use a lot of sanitary pads.

– It may sometimes lead to depression

Diagnosis of endometriosis

Endometriosis can be difficult to diagnose because symptoms can vary greatly

Ultrasound examination  Or MRI Or laparoscopy, meaning the surgeon passes a thin tube through a small cut in your abdomen so he can see any patches of endometrial tissue.

This is the only way to be sure if you have endometriosis

 

 

Endometriosis treatments

There is currently no cure for this disease, but there are treatments that can help relieve symptoms rather than cure, which are:

* pain killers

* Hormonal medications

Your doctor may resort to a surgical procedure

* Surgery to cut out patches of endometrial tissue

* Surgery to remove part or all of the organs affected by endometriosis

Your doctor will discuss the options with you.

Sometimes they may suggest not starting treatment right away, to see if symptoms improve on their own

 

 

More problems caused by endometriosis

One of the main complications of disease is difficulty getting pregnant or not being able to get pregnant at all (infertility).

Surgery to remove endometrial tissue can help improve your chances of becoming pregnant, although there is no guarantee that you will be able to become pregnant after treatment.

 

 

Causes of endometriosis

The cause of disease is unknown

Several theories have been proposed, including:

Genetics – This condition tends to run in families and affects people belonging to certain ethnic groups more than others

A problem with the immune system – the body’s natural defense against disease and infection

Endometrial cells spread through the body in the bloodstream or lymphatic system
