What are the types of blood pressure measuring devices ?
There are two types of blood pressure measuring devices
Digital screens. These are easier to use
Manual screens. This is the type of device that you usually see in a doctor’s office.
What preparations should be taken when measuring blood pressure ?
Before measuring blood pressure
Do not eat, smoke or exercise for at least 30 minutes.
And do not use any medications that can raise blood pressure.
Rest for at least 5 minutes before you take up reading.
Sit in a comfortable position with both feet on the floor.
Do not move or talk while measuring blood pressure.
Try not to measure your blood pressure if you are stressed or upset.
If you can, use the same lever for each reading.
Readings may vary from 10 to 20 mm Hg between the arms
Remember that blood pressure readings vary throughout the day.
They are usually higher in the morning after you get up and move.
It decreases during the day and is at its lowest in the evening.
When you first start measuring blood pressure, always measure blood pressure 3 times.
Wait one to two minutes between recordings to allow blood to flow back into your arm.
After you get better at doing this, you will probably only need to do it once or twice at a time
